According to The Guardian The owners of Arsenal and Liverpool want to set up a network of clubs just like Manchester City. The City Football Group has several clubs in its ranks in addition to Manchester City, and it is quite possible that Arsenal and Liverpool will start a similar project, according to the English newspaper.

Earlier, American Todd Boehly, who has now owned Chelsea for a number of months, spoke about the desire to get hold of several clubs. However, overtures to invest in Santos were resolutely brushed aside by the Brazilians. According to The Guardian Boehly is now focusing on Chelsea’s investments in Belgium and Portugal. He would even have had contact with agent Jorge Mendes about this, who represents the interests of, among others, Cristiano Ronaldo.

At Arsenal, Stan Kroenke is the major shareholder who sees a lot in these plans. The American billionaire already owns the Colorado Rapids in America. These clubs have also been cooperating for quite some time. The US market has become a lot more interesting for European clubs in recent years as the overall level of the Major Soccer League rises and the emergence of bigger talents on the US national team.

Liverpool also sees it according to The Guardian to get hold of several clubs. Using this multi-club model makes it easier to bring players from other leagues to England and issue a work permit. This is important as the rules for this have been tightened up considerably since England left the European Union in 2020.
