Lille OSC rejected an offer for Sven Botman on Monday evening, Fabrizio Romano reports. Newcastle United have shown willingness to pay €35 million for the 21-year-old centre-back, but that is not enough to convince the reigning French champions. Lille would prefer to keep Botman at least until the summer.

A rental transfer for Botman is therefore absolutely out of the question. Lille is in financial difficulties and will have to reconsider the retention of the captain of the Dutch Juniors in the event of a spectacular new offer. Newcastle has an almost unlimited transfer budget after the takeover of the Saudi Arabian consortium, but the question is whether the Magpies are willing to spend more than 35 million euros on Botman.

AC Milan is also seriously interested, but has not made an offer for the former Ajax player. The Italians also seem to be unable to compete financially with the wealthy competitor from the Premier League. Sky Sports states that Lille will only cooperate with the departure of Botman for an amount of no less than seventy million euros, who has been fixed for a long time with a contract until mid-2025.

Botman came to Lille a year and a half ago for eight million euros and immediately turned out to be an important player. In his first season, the left-footed defender became champion of France with Lille. In the current football season, things are going a lot less in the competition, but wintering was secured in the Champions League. Botman is on 63 official appearances for Lille, producing 1 goal and 2 assists.
