Shkodran Mustafi is back in LaLiga this month. Levante announced on Thursday that the defender has signed a contract until the summer of 2023, with an option for another year. At Levante, Mustafi returns to familiar territory, as the 2014 world champion played three seasons for fellow townsman Valencia in the past.

Mustafi hopes to revive his career with Paco López’s team. The born German with Albanian roots, after a few seasons with Everton and Sampdoria, experienced his best years in the Valencia uniform. Los Che made no less than 33 million euros profit on the sale of the defender to Arsenal in 2016 for 41 million euros.

Mustafi, good for twenty caps on behalf of Germany, came to 115 duels in all competitions for Arsenal in his first three seasons. However, the defender failed to convince many critics and supporters and from 2019/20 his playing time in the main squad also decreased. The Londoners rescinded the defender’s contract on February 1, who subsequently committed himself to Schalke 04 for six months.

The collaboration between Mustafi and Schalke ended after thirteen duels and the relegation of the Königsblauen. Levante is still waiting for its first win this season. López’s team is two points after the first three matchdays, partly due to a 3-3 draw against Real Madrid.
