Kylian Mbappé earns six million euros gross per month at Paris Saint-Germain. That reveals L’Equipewhich has insight into all player salaries in the French Ligue 1. Since his recent contract extension at the Parc des Princes, the fast attacker earns almost as much as Lionel Messi and Neymar combined.
The French sports newspaper annually publishes an overview of player salaries in Ligue 1 and has also drawn up a list this year. Fifteen players from PSG are in the top twenty highest salaries in the league and the entire top ten is even filled by players from the Paris club. Mbappé earns by far the most: with six million euros gross per month, he became one of the highest-paid athletes ever last year. That amount was needed to keep the attacker out of the hands of the interested Real Madrid.
The sky-high fee that Mbappé collects is staggering even for players of the caliber of Messi and Neymar. The Argentinian world champion can ‘only’ add 3.38 million euros per month and his colleague from Brazil has to make do with an amount of 3.68 million euros per month. Mbappé therefore earns almost as much as Messi and Neymar combined. The player with the highest salary who does not play for PSG is Wissam Ben Yedder of AS Monaco. He earns 650,000 euros gross per month.
The high salaries are also a problem for PSG, which is now facing Financial Fair Play rules. Only a certain percentage of the income can be spent, so costs will probably have to be cut next summer. Contract extensions for Messi and Sergio Ramos, another big earner, therefore seem far away. That is good news for Barcelona and Al-Hilal, clubs interested in Messi and Ramos respectively.
