Belgium’s painful defeat at the World Cup against Morocco (2-0) has put relations in the dressing room on edge, reports L’Equipe. According to the renowned French newspaper, the selection was divided into two groups in the fierce discussion afterwards, of which Eden Hazard and Jan Vertonghen would be the most prominent ‘leaders’.

It has not been running for the entire world championship with the Red Devils, who got away extremely well with a 1-0 win in the opening game against Canada. Belgium could not convince again at all against Morocco and lost 2-0. Immediately after the match, a fierce exchange of words broke out between the internationals of Belgium in the catacombs.

Hazard would have lit a fuse with a comment towards Vertonghen. The Real Madrid winger and captain of the national team reportedly bit the former Ajax player that ‘the defense is too slow’. That went down the wrong way with Vertonghen, who became furious. Romelu Lukaku is said to have prevented a physical confrontation between the ruffs and acted as a mediator.

A signal was also visible against Canada of the mutual reproaches within the Belgian national team. After Michy Batshuayi’s goal, Kevin De Bruyne and Toby Alderweireld had a fierce discussion on the field about tactics, during which the necessary arm gestures were not shunned. National coach Roberto Martínez now has the difficult task of getting everyone on the same page towards the last group match at the World Cup in Qatar. Belgium probably needs to beat Croatia to advance in the tournament.
