France is once again rocked by fan violence. Supporters of RC Lens took to the field on Saturday during halftime of the game against Lille OSC and then ran towards the away section. There it came to a confrontation with the supporters of LOSC. The game was temporarily suspended, but has since resumed.

Images from the stands show how a large group of Lens fans take to the field to confront the branch. Stewards try to prevent that and also prevent supporters from entering the away section, which is surrounded by fences. Finally, the fans drip off and run back to their seats in the stands. The kick-off of the second half was therefore delayed by half an hour. At 6.30 pm the game started again with a 0-0 score.

It is the second time in the still fledgling season that supporters are causing problems in Ligue 1. On August 22, the game between OGC Nice and Olympique Marseille derailed when supporters of the home side took to the field to confront players from Marseilles. They then refused to finish the game and it was later decided that the rest of the game should be played out on neutral ground. Nice also has to play three games without an audience.
