RB Leipzig took full advantage of Bayern Munich’s misstep on Sunday afternoon. The team of trainer Julian Nagelsmann was 0-3 too strong when visiting Hertha BSC. Captain Marcel Sabitzer broke the spell for the visitors with a beautiful long shot, after which Nordi Mukiele and Willi Orban secured the victory in the second half. With the victory, Leipzig narrows the gap with the leader Bayern, who lost 2-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, to two points.

Leipzig, which went down 0-2 in-house against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday, started the game strongly. Hee-Chan Hwang was tailor-made by Marcel Halstenberg and fired at Rune Jarstein’s goal, but had to watch as the Norwegian closing post kept his goal clean with a fine save. After half an hour of play it was a hit for the visitors. Sabitzer got the ball about thirty meters from the goal by Dani Olmo, put the doctrine well in front of his right and then took a devastating shot: 0-1.

Leipzig remained the parent in the first act, but was unable to convert the field predominance into great opportunities. After the break, Hertha performed better and almost immediately scored a good chance via Matheus Conha. The Brazilian slalomed through the defense of Leipzig and then lashed out, but saw his attempt go just wide of Péter Gulácsi’s goal. While Hertha then appeared to get into the game better, the number two of the Bundesliga ended the game.

Substitute Mattéo Guendouzi did not get the ball out of his own penalty area after defending badly and saw how Nordi Mukiele hit hard and high on a pass from Tyler Adams: 0-2. Leipzig then pressed on to hunt for the third goal and was rewarded five minutes before time. A short corner kick was brought in front of the goal from the left side of the field, after which Orban put his head against the ball and left goalkeeper Jarstein for the third time: 0-3.
