Leicester City has secured a ticket for the FA Cup final on Sunday evening. The team of trainer Brendan Rodgers needed a goal from Kelechi Iheanacho to deal with Southampton: 1-0. It is the first time since the 1968/69 season the Foxes be in the final of the cup tournament. Chelsea will be the opponent in the final battle on May 15.

The teams started the meeting at Wembley very reluctantly, where only Ayoze Pérez got a chance in the opening quarter. After Youri Tielemans won the ball in midfield, Pérez was put in position a few passes later, but the attacker shot just over the goal. Halfway through the first half, Jamie Vardy also got into a promising position. The club top scorer played free on the corner of the sixteen-meter area, but the shot that followed was diverted enough by Jannik Vestergaard to remove the sting.

After half an hour of play, Vardy was put in position again after a combination with Pérez; however, the attacker was inaccurate in completion and shot over. It was one of the last feats of the first half. Southampton had little to crumble before the break. Five minutes after the break the Saints their first chance of the match via Vestergaard, who headed just over from a cross by James Ward-Prowse.

In the 55th minute, the deadlock was broken by Leicester. After an excellent rush, Vardy made it over the left flank, after which he put the ball back to Iheanacho. Although his shot was initially blocked by Vestegaard, the attacker still found the opening goal in the second chance: 1-0. Southampton tried to fight back into the game via Ibrahima Diallo and Che Adams, but Leicester managed to win the win.
