Club Brugge took three points on Sunday afternoon after a surprising comeback in the Jupiler Pro League on a visit to Racing Genk. On the stroke of half-time, Ignace van der Brempt received his second yellow card, after which Philippe Clement’s team gave away a 0-1 lead in the second half. Via goals from Noa Lang and Federico Ricca, a victory was still booked with ten men: 2-3. The victory puts Club Brugge on thirty points, four points behind leader Union Saint-Gilloise.

Club Brugge, with Lang in the base and Ruud Vormer and Bas Dost on the bench, seemed to fall behind after ten minutes. Mike Trésor opened the scoring, but Kristian Thorstvedt fouled Jack Hendry and the goal was cancelled. Halfway through the first half, the game got looser, but it didn’t immediately lead to great opportunities. The spell was eventually broken by Hans Vanaken. Lang was given plenty of time and space to pass a cross from the right towards the far post, where the midfielder shot in in one go: 0-1.

However, just before half-time, the visitors suffered a setback when Van der Brempt received his second yellow card from referee Lawrence Visser after a wild tackle on Theo Bongonda. Brugge then failed to maintain the lead for long. Charles De Ketelaere headed the ball away, after which Patrik Hrosovsky scored the equalizer with a great volley. The equalizer motivated Genk to press on straight away. Trésor, however, did not have his sights sharp on two occasions. First he shot half a meter wide from the edge of the penalty area, after which he also failed to hit the goal with his weaker leg.

In that phase of the game, Bruges barely got away from its own half and the lead for the home team hung in the air as a result. This one eventually came. Hrosovsky tried again with a shot from a distance. Simon Mignolet made a mistake by not processing a sustainable ball well and thus led the 2-1. Bruges came alongside almost out of nowhere. The substitute Vormer gave in to De Ketelaere, who gave wide to Lang. The attacker did not hesitate and passed Maarten Vandevoordt from close range: 2-2. In the final phase, the surprising comeback was complete, when Ricca was able to head in a corner from Vormer: 2-3.
