Javier Tebas is not a man of words alone. The LaLiga president denounced Paris Saint-Germain’s conduct in the contract extension of Kylian Mbappe and promised to take legal action against the club and its chairman Nasser Al Khelaïfi. The charges, alleging violations of Financial Fair Play regulations, were officially filed with UEFA this week, LaLiga reports on its official website.

Last week, Real Madrid seemed to be in pole position to sign Mbappe, but PSG’s latest contract proposal made the 57-time French international decide to stay with his current club. The French national champion was prepared to go far for his star player. Le Parisien reported that he could sign for a net annual salary of fifty million euros per season and a net signing premium of one hundred million euros for two seasons. PSG’s proposal sounded more familiar to Mbappe than Real’s, which was the deciding factor for him.

Tebas was mad about the contract offer from Paris, which, according to him, should not have been done at all. “What PSG are going to do by extending Mbappe’s contract with huge amounts of money (which we know from where and how PSG is paying him), after losing €700m in recent years and paying €600m in wages, is an INSULT to football, the driver wrote on Twitter: “Al-Khelaifi is as dangerous as the Super League.”

The LaLiga president’s anger was also evident in the official statement of the top Spanish football body that came out not long after his Tweet. In this letter, LaLiga indicated that it would file a complaint against PSG with the administrative and tax authorities of UEFA, the French and European authorities. “This is a scandal,” said Tebas and his associates.

Last April, LaLiga also filed a suit against Manchester City, also for violating the Financial Fair Play regulations. “LaLiga believes the practices of these clubs are damaging the ecosystem and sustainability of football,” the league wrote about that and the current case. “The financing of the clubs consists of direct cash injections or sponsor and other contacts that are economically incomprehensible.” LaLiga also challenged both Manchester City and PSG to UEFA in 2017 and 2018, after which the European association ruled in favor of the Spaniards. However, the International Sports Tribunal (CAS) overturned that.
