Kylian Mbappé deplores the way Camille, an eight-year-old girl with a rare disease, has been pilloried on social media. The attacker of Paris Saint-Germain and the national team of France shares via his social media a message from the association ‘A smile for Camille’, which works for children with rare and genetic disorders. The message is a collection of hateful texts towards the girl after her video message to the attacker.

Camille asked Mbappe on Sunday if he would “please” stay with Paris Saint-Germain. “Then you can keep us dreaming for a long time to come.” The attacker has an expiring contract and has been interested in Real Madrid for a long time. A transfer-free departure to the Spanish capital in the summer seems a real possibility. Camille’s innocent video sparked a lot of hateful and outrageous comments from social media users, who apparently would rather be rid of Mbappé than be rich.

“Camille, our brave little warrior, just wanted to declare her love for Kylian Mbappé. We could never have imagined so much hate. Camille fights every day to spread a smile. The sadness we feel is equal to this violence,” the association said. Mbappé regrets the reactions. “Happy New Year to you too, my little Camille. Keep fighting as you do now, you are teaching us all a life lesson.” Words that generated over 100,000 likes.

“The violence of the comments towards a girl… We are really about to hit rock bottom. We need to slow down a bit,” sighs Mbappé. It is certainly not the first time that the attacker has seriously questioned negative, abusive or totally unlawful comments on social media. In fact, last summer he was the one who had to deal with it.

A missed penalty by Mbappe against Switzerland led to France’s elimination from the European Championship and the blame was subsequently placed on the attacker. “It was my fault, but it hurts when you see certain messages,” the attacker told earlier this month CNN. “How can we stop that? It starts with the social media itself, but the football players also have to get involved. We can’t wait for the insults to come. Active action must be taken against it. It is unlikely that this will still be possible and allowed in 2022.”
