Paris Saint-Germain qualified for the final of the Coupe de France on Wednesday evening. Luis Enrique's team only managed to score once against Stade Rennes, but that turned out to be enough for a place in the final: 1-0. The scorer was Kylian Mbappé, who also played a negative role.

Despite the troubles surrounding his person, Mbappé 'just' had a starting spot. The superstar formed a pair up front with Ousmane Dembélé in Enrique's 4-4-2 formation. The two strikers that PSG signed for tens of millions last summer, Randal Kolo Muani and Gonçalo Ramos, started on the bench this season, as is often the case.

On paper, no players who naturally act on the wings started in the four-man midfield. Kang-in Lee and Fabián Ruiz were the two who appeared most on the sides, while Warren Zaire-Emery and Vitinha were stationed as central midfielders.

At the back, Gianluigi Donnarumma faced four defenders. Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendos covered the flanks, while captain Marquinhos and Lucas Hernández formed the heart of the defense.

The game was monotonous in the first half. Rennes looked for counter opportunities and allowed PSG to make the play. The Parisians were only slightly successful in this. In the 37th minute they did get an excellent opportunity.

Mbappé was knocked down in the enemy box by defender Guéla Doué, after which the referee pointed to the spot. The world striker got behind the ball himself, but goalkeeper Steve Mandanda managed to save the ball.

Not much later, Mbappé still scored, when he was sent into the depth by Ruiz in the fortieth minute. Mbappé cut down one opponent and then tried from just inside the penalty area. His attempt was touched on the way, leaving Mandanda without a chance: 1-0.

In the second act Rennes came out of their shell somewhat, but this did not lead to great opportunities. Donnarumma had an easy evening and kept his goal clean without too much effort. Nevertheless, it was a mediocre performance by PSG, as that team also did not score in the remainder of the game. With the victory, PSG has qualified for the final of the Coupe de France, in which the Parisians will face Olympique Lyon.
