Michiel Kramer was furious about referee Serdar Gözübüyük after PSV against RKC Waalwijk last week and was brought back in front of the camera a week later, after his team’s 5-1 victory over the nine SC Cambuur. The striker fooled around with interviewer Hans Kraay junior van ESPN and couldn’t resist saying several times that the referee was ‘fantastic’.

He was referring to Sander van der Eijk, who sent two players and the trainer of Cambuur to the side with a red card and also gave a penalty to RKC. Last week, the Waalwijkers saw the other side of the coin. “I think it would be wise if I don’t say anything more about that and you know that too,” Kramer responds. “The referee was fantastic today. Will we also get a top club penalty? No idea. I thought the referee was fantastic today, Hans.”

Kramer himself also made a good impression, because he scored twice and that fell to the analysts in the studio of ESPN also on. They thought the tall striker had become ‘more mature’ and Kramer understood that. “I’m also getting a bit older, haha. However, I had already turned the button for a while, but I didn’t get the chance to show that at my previous clubs. I already had that maturity there, but I couldn’t let it go because it was less in terms of club or game. Here I feel the appreciation from top to bottom and that makes a player happy.”

During the conclusion of the interview, Kraay cannot resist coming back to last week’s incident, for which Kramer was fined a thousand euros by the KNVB. The striker is asked whether he will pay that fine himself. “The referee was fantastic tonight,” he said with a big grin. Henk de Jong, Cambuur’s trainer, did not agree at all. He noted that he had called the arbiter a ‘weak asshole’ at the penalty moment.
