Atalanta narrowly defeated Hellas Verona in Serie A on Wednesday evening. Due to a goal by Teun Koopmeiners, assisted by Marten de Roon, the final score was 0-1. The team from Bergamo is therefore currently in fourth place in the Italian league. Hans Hateboer, who has not played since February of this year due to a cruciate ligament injury, made his return for Atalanta after the break.
Particularities:
Hellas started with former Eredivisie player Cyriel Ngonge in the starting line-up, while former FC Groningen midfielder Tomas Suslov had to settle for a place on the bench. At Atalanta there was a starting place for De Roon and Koopmeiners, while Hateboer and Mitchel Bakker started on the bench. After twelve minutes, Atalanta made it 0-1: De Roon played the ball to the right, where Koopmeiners – after a switch from Emil Holm – was ready to finish in the long corner. In the second half, in which Hateboer made his return, Hellas was close to the equalizer via Isak Hien (header over) and Ondrej Duda (free kick over). On the other hand, Charles De Ketelaere, who headed just over, failed to definitively decide the match. Still, the three points went to Bergamo.
