Clarence Seedorf has been nominated by the Supervisory Board for Professional Football of the KNVB as a commissioner, the Dutch Football Association announced on Wednesday by means of an official press release. The 46-year-old former international must fill the vacancy that arose after the departure of Han Berger, who became a football technical advisor within the KNVB. Seedorf can be officially appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board on 27 June during the general meeting of the Supervisory Board.

Jan Albers, the chairman of the Supervisory Board, explains via the website of the KNVB why Seedorf has been nominated as a candidate. “It is nice to see that former players of great names want to dedicate themselves to Dutch football. His first priority within the Supervisory Board is of course the football technical field. However, we know Clarence not only as a great player, but also as a socially involved person, someone who looks beyond just his own world. This is particularly valuable in a role as a supervisory director. We look forward to working with Clarence.”

Seedorf himself is also happy with the confidence from the KNVB. “I thank the KNVB and the Supervisory Board for the trust and appreciation. As a commissioner, I can share my knowledge and experience with my colleagues within the KNVB with the aim of making a positive contribution to the game we all love so much.” Seedorf has not played an official role in football for years. His last position was that of national coach of the Cameroon national team, where he worked until July 2019. Since then he has been regularly seen as an analyst.

Seedorf played 87 times for the Dutch national team. In those international matches, he scored eleven goals and seven assists. In 2018, he revealed in an interview with RTL News still disappointed with his international career. “My only disappointment will always be that I was unable to continue my career in the Dutch national team due to choices made by two trainers. My sports heart is crying because I couldn’t finish that. But you can’t have everything,” Seedorf said. However, the disappointment from his playing career does not prevent him from going to work at the KNVB.
