Sean Klaiber will link his international career to Suriname, the Surinamese football association announced on Sunday afternoon. The 26-year-old defender of Ajax is therefore the newest reinforcement within a team that has been able to count on many new names in recent weeks. Suriname secretly hoped to participate in the 2022 World Cup, but was eliminated by Canada in the qualifying series.

Klaiber was announced via his own Instagram account, on which he shared a photo with the text: ‘I’m coming’, accompanied by a Surinamese flag. Klaiber has dual nationality and went through several youth teams on behalf of the Netherlands, but never made his debut for the Dutch national team. As a result, he can now play for Suriname. Klaiber played two games for the Netherlands Under-20 in the past and played four times for the Netherlands Under-21.

The selection of Suriname is starting to take shape with the arrival of Klaiber. In recent weeks, Ridgeciano Haps and Mitchell Te Vrede, among others, have already linked their future to Suriname. Florian Jozefzoon, Kelvin Leerdam, Ramon Leeuwin, Warner Hahn, Ryan Donk and Diego Biseswar, among others, are part of the selection of national coach Dean Gorré. Suriname got off to a good start in the World Cup qualifying series and managed to win the first three matches fairly easily from the Cayman Islands (3-0), Aruba (0-6) and Bermuda (6-0), but was eliminated in Canada (4-0) 0)
