Fulham was finally relegated from the Premier League on Monday evening. At home, the team of trainer Scott Parker got a last chance to avert relegation against Burnley, but did not capitalize on that opportunity: 0-2. Kenny Tete got a starting spot, although he couldn’t prevent Fulham from being relegated for the third time in club history. In addition to the Londoners, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United have also been sentenced to next season’s Championship.

The Cottagers started in good spirits the meeting at Craven Cottage, where André Zambo Anguissa scored the first chance of the match. The midfielder created space for the shot at the corner of the box, but failed to outwit goalkeeper Nick Pope. After fifteen minutes of play, Fulham was again in a favorable position. This time it was Ademola Lookman who failed to open the score after a pass from Bobby Decordova-Reid. Midway through the first half, Burnley fired a first warning shot through Matej Vydra. He thought he would score, but did so after the ball had already passed the end line in attack: goal rejected.

In the last ten minutes before half-time, the last glimmer of hope for survival flew like snow in the sun for Fulham. Vydra had a perfect start after 35 minutes of play after a deep pass from the back and then beat Joachim Andersen for speed. From the back line, Vydra put the ball back to Ashley Westwood, who hit in front of an open goal: 0-1. Just before half time, the margin was doubled. Chris Wood got the ball back from Josh Brownhill after a self-created combination, after which the striker shot straight in from the edge of the box: 0-2. In the second act, Fulham hoped to turn the tide, but relegation could no longer be averted.
