Napoli has managed to book a great victory at AS Roma. The team of Luciano Spalletti, who returned to his former employer, won 0-1 with a goal from Victor Osimhen. Rick Karsdorp was shown red afterwards and then pushed referee Massimiliano Irrati. With the win, Napoli is doing excellent business in Serie A, which saw title rival Atalanta lose earlier in the day. Therefore stand i Partenopei now head alone. Roma remains fifth.

Karsdorp started in the base with the Romans. The right wing defender was out for a month with a meniscus injury, but made his comeback in the last round at Sampdoria (0-1 victory). Trainer José Mourinho also had a starting place for Nicolò Zaniolo and Tammy Abraham, among others. The Englishman’s starting place was at the expense of Andrea Belotti, among others. There were no surprises at Napoli. It was noticeable that Mário Rui had to sit on the bench. The Portuguese is usually the regular left-back in Serie A, but this time the physically stronger Mathias Olivera was preferred.

Zaniolo had the first serious chance of the match after six minutes of play. The technician cleared the ball well and then shot just wide of the left post. A few minutes later Abraham also had a shot in the house, which turned out to be harmless. On the other hand, Piotr Zielinski was menacing. The Polish midfielder saw his shot turned by Roma goalkeeper Rui Patrício. Napoli had difficulty creating opportunities, but thought they would get a penalty seven minutes before half time. Tanguy Ndombele was knocked out by Patrício, after which Irrati pointed to the spot. On the advice of the VAR, the leader looked at the images and saw that Patrício first played the ball, so the decision was revoked. Hirving Lozano was close to 0-1 before halftime, but his attempt was turned by Patrício.

After the break, Lozano was close again, but again he found Roma’s goalkeeper. After an hour of play, Elmas could have made it 0-1, but his shot was just saved by Smalling. Moments later, Juan Jesus got a free shot. However, the Brazilian hit the ball completely wrong and saw his attempt go wide. The biggest chance of the game came in the 69th minute. After an attack by Roma came to nothing, Zielinski picked up the ball and brought the ball to Osimhen. The Nigerian easily got rid of Roger Ibañez and was easily shaken off, after which the striker saw the ball land just wide of the wrong side of the post. After eighty minutes of play, Osimhen finally broke the spell. A nice deep pass from substitute Matteo Politano led to a sprint duel between the hitherto unpassable Smalling and Osimhen, which was won by the record purchase of Napoli. Osimhen then managed to work the leather into the goal very nicely: 0-1.
