Alan Shearer thinks Erling Braut Haaland is being praised too much for his performance at Manchester City. That’s what the Premier League’s all-time top scorer says in an extensive interview with The Athletic. Shearer thinks Harry Kane would score as many goals as the 22-year-old Norwegian as a striker for City.

Kane was close to a transfer to Manchester last year. The Citizens refused to pay more than 100 million euros for the 29-year-old Englishman. Instead, City waited for Haaland to lift a €60 million clause from Borussia Dortmund. Haaland has twenty goals and three assists after his first thirteen games for City. Worldwide, the left leg is receiving praise for his impressive start at the Etihad Stadium.

Yet Shearer refuses to go along completely. “Erling Haaland is off to a great start to his career at Manchester City and is a great talent, but any top striker would score goals in this Pep Guardiola side right now. That’s why I think Harry Kane would score as many goals as City striker. If Guardiola had had his way last year, things would have looked very different for Kane now.”

The former striker of Newcastle United and the Three Lions enjoy the game of City immensely. “This City is a dream world for every top striker. Every pure goalscorer should score at least forty goals in this team. If Erling stays fit, he’ll easily make it, and maybe he’ll make more. But Harry’s stats show he could.”
