Massimiliano Allegri will start working at Juventus, journalist Fabrizio Romano assures Thursday based on information from Sky Italia. The currently clubless trainer will succeed Andrea Pirlo, who will be fired in ‘the coming hours’ after a disappointing season in which Juventus finished fourth. So Allegri is not going to Real Madrid; he was named as Zinedine Zidane’s successor, but is said to have changed his mind because Real Madrid did not act fast enough.

Allegri thus returns to Turin. He was at the helm for five seasons in Turin between 2014 and 2019 and became national champion every year. He also won the Coppa Italia four times and the Supercoppa twice; Juventus was also twice in the final of the Champions League, although that trophy was never won. It has now been a little over two years since Juventus announced the departure of Allegri. The trainer finished the 2018/19 season, but has since been unemployed.

Juventus reportedly made an initial offer to Allegri for a two-year contract with an option for a third year, for an annual salary of seven million euros. Later the superpower came with an improved offer: a contract for three seasons plus an additional year, with a salary between eight and nine million euros. Internazionale also showed interest in Allegri after it became clear on Wednesday evening that Antonio Conte was leaving, so Juventus had to act quickly.
