Juventus has done good business in the battle for the Champions League places in Serie A. It was not an impressive performance against number eighteen Hellas Verona, but nevertheless won 1-0. Moise Kean was the match winner after the break with a goal from Juventus’ first really good attack. La Vecchia Signora is now in seventh place, just four points behind the coveted fourth place.

Kean got the confidence in the vanguard from Massimiliano Allegri. The fit Arek Milik was his offensive partner. Dusan Vlahovic and Matías Soulé were sent to the bench as a result. Enzo Barrenechea replaced the suspended Adrien Rabiot in midfield for the home club. Juan Cuadrado acted as wingback on the right, replacing Filip Kostic. Ángel Di María started as a reserve player against Verona, but still got playing time from Allegri as a substitute. At Verona, Jayden Braaf stayed on the bench for ninety minutes.

Juventus didn’t exactly get off to a good start and were lucky that Ondrej Duda shot straight into the hands of Wojciech Szczesny. Fabio Depaoli could also have put the hosts behind after fifteen minutes of play, were it not for his volley that went wide of goal from close range. Juventus only bit off in the final phase of the first half. Danilo saw a bang hit the post through the wall of Verona. Both teams conceded little to each other and went to rest for fifteen minutes without goals.

The only goal of the evening at the Juventus Stadium came ten minutes after the break. Manuel Locatelli found Kean with a measured pass, after which the attacker hit the ball flawlessly into the corner: 1-0. Allegri decided to substitute the goalscorer five minutes later to send Vlahovic on the field. Fellow attacker Milik was relieved by Di María. Juventus kept the minimal lead thanks to a great save by Szczesny on a bet by substitute Filippo Terracciano. Bremer still failed with an almost unmissable opportunity, but it did not cost Juventus dearly. A good dress up for Tuesday’s clash with Internazionale in Tuesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final.
