Valentijn Driessen does not have a good word for Jan de Jong’s performance at BEAU last Friday night. The director of the Eredivisie CV argued in favor of reopening the stadiums to the public, but according to Driessen, he fell seriously short in his argument. The chief of football of The Telegraph says in the podcast Kick-Off that the Eredivisie is not doing it as well as De Jong claims and advises both the clubs and the board to ‘look in the mirror more often’. Driessen thus creates a bridge to the fuss around Mohamed Ihattaren.

Eredivisie director De Jong was a guest in the daily talk show on Friday RTL and ‘just say what’, according to Driessen. “He simply shouted that all Dutch football fans walk to Germany and Belgium because the stadiums remain empty. But how is that possible? Because you can’t visit matches there either. I thought: How can he say that?” The rest of De Jong’s speech was also not appealing to Driessen, despite the fact that he takes the same position as the highest director of the Eredivisie CV.

“In two weeks they want to open the stadiums. I am also for that, but then you have to come up with good arguments. Then you hear De Jong say: ‘Yes, we have become vice world champion three times and we have so many European Cups. We won and we are all doing so well in the Netherlands.” But if you see what Ajax is up to with those corona measures, the happening with Vloet. Then you can say: We have everything very well done, but they do not have everything right at all. for each other.”

“Just like our friend Mohamed Ihattaren, perhaps the clubs and the Eredivisie should look in the mirror more often,” Driessen concludes. He is referring to the fuss around Ihattaren because of his recent interview in The Telegraph, as well as the last two years of his career. On Sunday, Driessen ended up in a fierce discussion with Ajax coach Erik ten Hag after FC Utrecht – Ajax (0-3). He was also critical of general manager Edwin van der Sar. Driessen felt that both could have acted better in response to the corona riot that arose around the training camp.
