Jordan Henderson has expressed his dismay at the current state of affairs in the Premier League. The Liverpool midfielder is concerned that the well-being of players is not being taken seriously by the English Football Association. The Premier League announced on Monday that it plans to continue its scheduled games over the Christmas period, despite the fact that there were 90 positive corona cases among players and members of the coaching staff last week.

During a meeting with representatives of all twenty clubs from the highest English football league, it was decided to continue. Last weekend, six out of ten games ended a significant increase in the number of corona cases. “I don’t think people realize how intense it is until you see it firsthand,” Henderson told the newspaper. BBC. “Football is everything to us and we enter the field every time with the intention to perform at the highest level. But unfortunately during this period it is difficult to do that.”

Henderson will play nine times with Liverpool this month. On Wednesday evening, Jürgen Klopp’s team will play at home against Leicester City for the EFL Cup, after which they will meet Leeds United (December 26) and again Leicester City (December 28) next week. “This has been going on for a few years now and it has been difficult, but now there is also the corona virus on top of that,” said the midfielder. “Of course as footballers we always want to play, but I am very concerned. I fear that no one at the FA takes the well-being of the players seriously, especially during this period.”

The 31-year-old Englishman sounds the alarm and hopes that something will soon change about the overcrowded schedule in the Premier League. “We will try to have conversations in the background and try to have some influence in the future, but at the moment I feel the players are not getting the respect they deserve. Someone needs to come in who can independently for us speak and have the power to say that this is actually not good for the well-being of the players,” concludes Henderson.
