Johan Derksen finds it understandable that Ajax is not going to work with Wesley Sneijder at the moment, he says in a video item from Veronica. The record international of the Dutch seemed almost certain to get a position within the technical staff of Maurice Steijn, but on Tuesday evening Sneijder himself suddenly announced that the talks had been stopped by Ajax. Derksen states that the people of Amsterdam have no appetite for ‘Wesley’s friends’.

“Wesley shouldn’t beg on his knees for a job at Ajax”, Derksen starts his conversation with Noa Vahle. “Wesley has been a great footballer and everyone takes him seriously and everyone respects his football career. But he should not start behaving like this now, because he indicates that he wants to.” Although the journalist does not know the exact reason for the collaboration, he suspects that Sneijder’s immediate environment is a problem for the club.

“The problem with Wesley is that he’s always surrounded by a huge court of neighborhood boys that he grew up with. Only not everyone, and certainly not at a listed company, likes that the court always comes with him. Those are guys from the stamped pot, but they don’t fit in with all the sponsors and dignitaries who walk there.”

“Wesley also has to realize that he didn’t play sports after his football career, so he’s put on a lot of weight,” adds Derksen. “He’s not in a tracksuit and he doesn’t look like he wants to be fit. Wesley should try to get some experience at a small club first. Of course he has some baggage and he will eventually end up at Ajax, but I can imagine that people at Ajax are a bit hesitant.”

“I think he’s a great guy and he does an excellent job on TV, because he has crystal clear analyses. But he kind of blames himself. He should solo a bit more and not always follow with the whole group. It really is a group that takes advantage of him, because he will undoubtedly pay for the drinks, and they are parasites that swarm over a sportsman. I also understand that he is a bit pissed, because they kind of said they were going to bring him in. But Ajax apparently had a reason not to do it. FC Utrecht was also not so happy that he was always there with his friends in a box”, concludes Derksen.
