Jasper Cillessen underwent an operation on his fibula on Tuesday, Valencia reports through the official channels. The goalkeeper is recovering ‘prosperously’ from the operation, but will be offside for the foreseeable future. It is unclear how long Cillessen will be out of circulation. In any case, he will be missing on Sunday in the league match against his old employer Barcelona.

Cillessen was injured on Wednesday 19 January during the game against Sevilla (1-1). He had to leave the field after more than fifteen minutes of play. The closing post appeared to be injured in a rescue and was replaced by Jaume Doménech. Cillessen was able to go off the field with his own hands and therefore did not seem too seriously injured, but in the end it was decided to have an operation.

Cillessen was already operated on in early November 2020, then because of a muscle injury in his right leg. He was injured during a training session. In the end, after that operation, the keeper was sidelined until his return on February 20. His team Valencia is currently twelfth in LaLiga and has already lost six consecutive games.
