Janis Blaswich is in his last months in the service of Heracles Almelo. The thirty-year-old goalkeeper has signed a contract with RB Leipzig until mid-2025, both clubs announced on Tuesday. The 1.93 meter long Blaswich has an expiring contract in Almelo, which means that he transfers to Leipzig after this season. He posed on Tuesday with the shirt of his new club.

“I would in any case like to thank the trainers for the past three and a half years and in particular goalkeeper coach Brian van Loo. Thanks to him I have developed in this way and that shows how work is done here,” the grateful Blaswich said on the Heracles website on Tuesday. They had been working on the contract extension of the goalkeeper since last season, who therefore opts for a return to Germany. “I really appreciate what the club has offered me to keep me here. But it was high on my goal list to keep in the Bundesliga one more time and I wanted to wait for that. Now that this opportunity comes along, I can’t pass it up.”

“Of course we would have liked to keep Janis for Heracles. We made him an excellent offer, but he also has his ambitions”, says technical director Tim Gilissen in a first reaction. “Janis has been very reliable and transparent in this process over the past few months. This is a great step for him. We can be proud that we are once again delivering someone to a good club in a top European competition.”

Blaswich has made 108 official appearances for Heracles so far since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2018. The outgoing goalkeeper will give everything for his current employer in the coming period. “That focus is at Heracles Almelo, also when it came to discussions with other clubs. Then my agent picked it up, so that I could keep my focus on the training sessions and competitions. I am captain and I feel a responsibility to end the season with my team in the best possible way.”

The acquisition of Leipzig was at the beginning of his career at Borussia Mönchengladbach the competitor of Marc-André ter Stegen and Yann Sommer. In Germany he also played for Dynamo Dresden and Hansa Rostock. Blaswich may compete in Leipzig with Yvon Mvogo, who will be on a rental basis for PSV until the end of the season. The Swiss goalkeeper’s commitment will continue until mid-2023.
