Antonio Rüdiger received a warm welcome in Madrid. The 29-year-old defender came to the Spanish capital on a free transfer from Chelsea last summer and was unexpectedly visited by Carlo Ancelotti on his very first day there. Rüdiger was perplexed, and after a few months in the service of Real Madrid is already completely convinced of what a special man his trainer is.

It was the day before Rüdiger’s official presentation. The German had not been in his new home for a few hours before he was pleasantly surprised. “I can tell you a very nice story”, the German begins opposite Sports1. “I was having a barbecue with my family and suddenly the doorbell rang. I opened the door and Carlo Ancelotti was just standing in front of me. wow moment!”

His new trainer made an unforgettable impression on Rüdiger. “Ancelotti sat down at our table, ate with us and got to know my family. Very normal, very down to earth. He was there for two hours and we talked about everything. I’ll be honest, I’ve never experienced anything like it. No coach has ever done such a thing for me,” said the stopper.

That first impression was only a tip of the veil, Rüdiger discovered. In the two and a half months that he is under contract at the Santiago Bernabéu, he drew an unequivocal conclusion. “After a few months with him I’m sure: when it comes to dealing with players, Ancelotti is untouchable. Try Don Carlos just stop. He already collected Champions League titles when I was a kid. Working with him and at the most successful club in the world is wonderful.”
