Franck Ribéry remains active in Serie A. The 38-year-old attacker was transfer-free after his contract with Fiorentina expired at the end of last season and is now going to work with PhD student Salernitana. The transfer has not yet been officially confirmed, but has already been reported by various media in Italy. The veteran is about to sign a one-year deal with the option of an additional season.

This weekend, the parties involved hope to settle the final contractual details. If everything goes according to plan, Ribéry will set foot in Salerno on Monday. Ribéry is also said to have received offers from Hellas Verona and Fatih Karagümrük from Turkey in recent weeks. His preference was for a longer stay in Italy, although Karagümrük wanted to offer him a two-year contract. For that reason, Ribéry considered a switch to the Süper Lig, but in the end the choice fell on Salernitana, which lost the first two matches of the new season.

Salernitana sporting director Angelo Fabiani confirmed on Friday that he is working on the arrival of the Frenchman. “We made an offer and the player is considering it,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss. “We are confident. We already have a complete squad, but the arrival of Ribery would be the icing on the cake. It would be like the arrival of Maradona to Napoli.” Ribéry played for Fiorentina for the past two years. The left winger continued to play for Galatasaray, Olympique Marseille and Bayern Munich in his career.
