The transfer of Tijjani Reijnders from AZ to AC Milan is getting closer. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports on Thursday that the Italian superpower has concluded an agreement in principle with the midfielder. Reijnders can earn 1.7 million euros per year with a contract for the next five seasons. However, the pink sports newspaper expects that there are “complex negotiations” ahead for Milan.

AZ is not planning to let Reijnders go just like that and is aiming for a transfer fee between 18 and 20 million euros. La Gazzetta dello Sport reveal earlier. The selection of Reijnders for the Dutch national team – he did not play – will have done the price well for the Alkmaarders. The tough negotiations between the clubs have yet to get underway, but it is certain that Reijnders has expressed his preference for Italy over a path to the bottom of the Premier League.

Reijnders must succeed Sandro Tonali at Milan. The latter is close to a transfer to Newcastle United and will yield the Italian superpower between seventy and eighty million euros. Last week, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano stated that the deal is in its final phase. Stefano Pioli also has to do without Ismaël Bennacer (knee injury) until the end of 2023, making the arrival of new midfielders the top priority for the Milan coach.

Last season marked Reijnders’ absolute breakthrough at AZ. The transfer value of the AZ midfielder has quadrupled in the last eight months and, together with Jeffrey de Lange from Go Ahead Eagles, he was the only player to play the full 3060 minutes in the past Eredivisie season. Reijnders accounted for 4 goals and 6 assists and reached the semi-finals of the Conference League with the Alkmaarders, in which West Ham United turned out to be too strong.
