PEC Zwolle strengthened itself on Thursday with Gervane Kastaneer. The 25-year-old attacker signs a contract in Overijssel for the duration of two seasons, with an option for another year. Kastaneer comes over from Coventry City; the Championship club leased him to the Scottish Hearts of Midlothian for the past six months.

Before his time in England, the international from Curaçao successively played for FC Dordrecht, ADO Den Haag, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and NAC Breda. In 2019 he left for Coventry City. Kastaneer can come transfer-free to PEC, because his contract in England was not extended. This month he would participate in the Gold Cup with Curaçao, but due to a number of corona infections, including at Kastaneer, the team had to withdraw. However, he has now recovered. The attacker, who can be used in all positions in the vanguard, already trained with PEC on Wednesday during the training camp in Epe.

“PEC is a beautiful club and I also heard good stories from Gustavo Hamer, teammate at Coventry City. My positive feeling was reinforced by the conversations with the trainer and technical manager, after which it was an easy choice for me to choose PEC In the coming season I want to be important for the team with goals and assists, I can’t wait to play with full stands in the MAC3PARK stadium for the first time”, Kastaneer responds, after Mees de Wit, Jasper Schendelaar, Siemen Voet and Kostas Lamprou the fifth newcomer in Art Langeler’s team, on his transfer.

Technical manager Mike Willems is also happy with the deal. “With Gervane we are adding an attacker who can play in all three positions up front. He is physically strong and has a constant urge to move forward. This makes him an excellent fit for the football we want to play next season. Curaçao’s now canceled participation in the Gold Cup has delayed the formal settlement of the agreement, but I am pleased that he will now join the selection immediately and in that capacity still participate in a large part of the preparation. “
