Rafael van der Vaart really does not understand why Niclas Füllkrug is always preferred to Sébastien Haller at Borussia Dortmund. The former midfielder has little sympathy for the striker who recently scored the winning goal in the friendly match between Germany and the Netherlands (2-1).

“I've said it before, but for me Füllkrug is like someone who has won a prize and is therefore allowed to play for Dortmund for five minutes,” the analyst said on Wednesday evening after the Champions League match with Atlético Madrid. Ziggo Sports.

Van der Vaart was not only purely negative about Füllkrug. “I recently saw a series about the German national team and you can see that he fits very well into the group of players.”

“He is of course a mourner who is very important for such a group, but I think the quality is very poor. He does score his goals, but I think Haller is ten classes better,” Van der Vaart clearly prefers the former Ajax player .

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic has been giving Füllkrug confidence all season. The now 31-year-old attacker has so far scored eleven goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga. In the Champions League he only scored once in eleven appearances.

Füllkrug also had a starting place against Atlético Madrid on Wednesday evening BVB. However, the experienced striker could do little and was relieved by Haller after an hour of play in the Spanish capital.

It turned out to be a good move by Terzic, as Haller beautifully scored the tying goal in the final phase. As a result, Dortmund will start the return in the quarter-finals of the Champions League next week with perspective.
