Alexander Nübel does not want to return to his employer Bayern Munich after his rental period at AS Monaco. In an interview with Get French Football News the keeper agrees that he is in good shape in the principality, but according to him a return has ‘no sense’. Bee of the Rekordmeister Manuel Neuer is still under the bar until mid-2024 and Nübel does not intend to compete with the 113-times German international.

During his transfer from Schalke 04 to Munich, comparisons with Neuer frequently cropped up. The pressure was felt for Nübel and this period was not easy for him. In his first year at Bayern, he was allowed to show up only four times. The German is number one at AS Monaco and last season, according to statistics, he was the second-best goalkeeper, behind current PSV goalkeeper Walter Benítez. Only the Argentinian prevented more goals than Nübel last season (7.1 versus 4.8).

“I think I now have my rhythm back from my time at Schalke,” said Nübel. “The lack of playing minutes was certainly a cause of my difficult start in Munich. It was not easy without rhythm, without competitions. Now it is much better.” Les Rouges et Blancs are currently fifth in Ligue 1, with 14 points from eight games, eight points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain. Nübel is nevertheless in good form: no goalkeeper has made more saves (38) this season than the German in Ligue 1. He has been named man of the match three times and has kept three clean sheets in his last five games all competitions.

However, returning to his employer in Bavaria does not fit into Nübel’s future plan. “Playtime is absolutely the most important. If Neuer is still at Bayern, and he still has a contract until mid-2024, there is no point in going back. I may have a contract with Bayern, but I also think it makes no sense for them to have both me and Manuel under contract,” said Nübel. By the way, he denies reports about a tense relationship between Neuer and himself and looks positively. back on his time at Bayern: “I learned a lot about his (Neuers, ed.) general game and his communication with the guys before him. He is one of the best goalkeepers ever,” it sounds complimenting.
