Samir Handanovic has played his last match for Internazionale. On Wednesday afternoon, the club from Milan announces that the marriage with the 38-year-old goalkeeper will come to an end. Where and whether Handanovic will continue his career is not yet known. The Slovenian lost his place under the bar to André Onana last season.

Handanovic first made his way to Italy in 2004 when he signed a multi-year contract with Udinese. That club lent him to Lazio and Treviso, among others, before he made the switch to Internazionale in 2012 for about eleven million euros. Handanovic joined in Nerazzurri replacing Júlio César and signing a contract worth two million per season.

With Inter, Handanovic managed to seize the Serie A once, win the Italian Cup twice and was a losing finalist in the Champions League and the Europa League twice. He also holds the record for most penalties stopped in Serie A: 32. The Slovenian thus leaves legend Gianluca Pagliuca behind.

The impressive series came to an end last season when trainer Simone Inzaghi decided to take a different course and preferred Onana. The Cameroonian turned out to be a worthy replacement and guided Inter to the final of the Champions League, which will most likely result in a transfer to Manchester United. For Handanovic, the counter stops at 455 games, in which he kept a clean sheet 166 times.
