Inter suffered a surprising loss of points on Sunday evening. The Serie A leader received mid-table Cagliari and gave away a lead twice: 2-2. The draw means that Inter can secure the title against city rivals AC Milan next week.

Inter, as has often been the case lately, started the game without Denzel Dumfries. The Dutch international seems to have permanently lost his starting spot to Matteo Darmian. Stefan de Vrij returned from injury and took a seat on the bench for the first time in a month.

The opening phase was as expected for Inter. Simone Inzaghi's team took the initiative and did not need long to turn the upper hand into a lead. A quick attack down the right ended via Alexis Sánchez at Marcus Thuram. The Frenchman came in front of his man and shot hard and low: 1-0.

Cagliari had little say in the first act, although it did get one good chance through Eldor Shomurodov. However, the Uzbekistan international was unable to find the net. He succeeded in the second half. After a long ball from behind, Shomurodov scored from the edge of the penalty area: 1-1.

The tie would only remain on the scoreboard for ten minutes. Cagliari defender Yerry Mina got the ball headed in his own box and so the ball went to the spot. Trendsetter Hakan Çalhanoglu then shot in from eleven meters: 2-1.

With Dumfries now on the field, Inter seemed to be taking an advance on the upcoming championship, if it were not for the visitors coming alongside for a second time.

Initially, the Inter defense managed to process a cross from the right, but when the ball was introduced again, the Milanese did not look good at the back. Nicolas Viola took advantage and put the final score on the board: 2-2. Inter emphatically looked for a winning goal, but did not find it. Viola was given a huge opportunity on behalf of Cagliari, but he too could not change the final score.
