Inter suffered its second defeat of the season in Serie A on Saturday. Simone Inzaghi's team lost when they visited relegation candidate Sassuolo due to a goal by Armand Laurienté: 1-0. Denzel Dumfries played a negative role in the goal, by suffering a simple and crucial loss of ball at the corner flag. It is a crucial three-pointer for Sassuolo, which is more firmly in ninth place. It is now equal in points (29) with number eighteen Udinese. The gap to safe Empoli is two points.

On the side of national champion Inter, two Dutchmen appeared at the kick-off, Dumfries and Stefan de Vrij. There was no place for Davy Klaassen in the team that mainly consisted of the B-choice. The midfielder came on fifteen minutes before the end. There was also a starting place for Serie A top scorer Lautaro Martínez.

Inter was the first team to create danger. However, a sharp ball from Alessandro Bastoni was just missed by Alexis Sánchez. De Vrij managed to distinguish himself in the defense of the national champions by defusing a through ball towards Matheus Henrique with a crucial tackle.

Sassuolo took over the initiative and appeared in front of Inter goalie Emil Audero several times. Yann Sommer's replacement could breathe a sigh of relief when Kristian Thorstvedt shot into the side netting and prevented an eight-score tie moments later through an attempt by Luca Lipani
to turn. On the other hand, Dumfries almost got an assist, if it weren't for Lautaro hitting the side net.

Sassuolo took the lead moments later. Dumfries was childishly easily defeated by Josh Doig, after which the Scot gave way to Laurienté. The Frenchman did not miss the enormous opportunity: 1-0. Dumfries soon got the chance to make up for his mistake. However, his attempt narrowly missed. Just before half time, Lautaro thought he would score the equalizer, but that was canceled due to the offside rule.

Even after the break, the troubled Sassuolo defended itself bravely and Inter had great difficulty breaking through the green wall. With ex-FC Twente striker Marko Arnautovic on board, Inter came a little closer, but the Milanese were simply not sharp enough.

Just before the end, Arnautovic offered fellow attacker Lautaro a good opportunity, which was left unused by the 2022 world champion. As a result, Sassuolo achieved another great victory over Inter after the 1-2 win in September.
