Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell is confident Stefan de Vrij will make a quick transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. According to various English and Italian media, the 29-year-old central defender of Internazionale is high on the wish list of Antonio Conte, who was appointed this week as the successor to the sacked Nuno Espírito Santo. The Italian club has announced through technical director Piero Ausilio that Inter do not want to let players go during the winter transfer period.

According to English media, Conte can go shopping in January with a budget of 175 million euros. He is said to have targeted several Serie A star players, including a number of players with whom he worked successfully at Inter in the past. De Vrij is one of the names that is high on the list of the Italian manager. The duo seized the national title last season. I Nerazzurri however, do not intend to sell any of their players unless a player submits a transfer request themselves.

According to Arsenal club legend Campbell, the reaction from Milan does not stop Conte from recruiting De Vrij. Tuttosport reported in the summer that Mino Raiola, the Dutch defender’s agent, offered him to Premier League clubs in hopes of securing a move to England. “Do Tottenham need another centre-back? They have plenty,” Campbell tells Football Insider. “Conte will have his own ideas about what he wants to do and how he wants to play. The most important thing is to attract players who will make this team better.”

“If De Vrij is the one who wants Conte, Tottenham will get him,” Campbell continued. “Conte is very steadfast. I am sure that we will soon see De Vrij in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt”, the former football player is convinced. Ausilio showed earlier opposite Sky Italy know that they will not cooperate in transfers during the upcoming transfer window. “The intention is to move forward with this roster,” Ausilio said. “We will not be processing any transfer requests in January. We will only continue what we started in June.”
