Aad de Mos thinks that Saturday night’s match between Ajax and FC Twente will be a must win is for Alfred Schreuder. If the team from Amsterdam drops points in the Eredivisie for the fifth time in a row, the analyst expects that the club board has seen enough and will send Schreuder away. The coach has been under pressure for a long time in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

After the draw at NEC on Sunday afternoon (1-1), Ajax has not won four league matches in a row. That, and the hopeless elimination in the Champions League, leads to the necessary chagrin among the fans of the reigning national champion. They have been calling for Schreuder’s departure for weeks and De Mos feels that a decisive match is coming for the coach. “It can be over on Saturday at 11 p.m.,” says the former trainer of the team from Amsterdam during Panenkaa video asset of the General Journal.

According to De Mos, public opinion plays a major role in this. “If you don’t win against FC Twente, it’s over for Alfred Schreuder at Ajax. As much as you want it as a club and as a group of players, but then you won’t get out of the ArenA. Everything depends on Saturday. This is the match , not the one in Rotterdam.” The analyst is referring to the away match at Feyenoord a week later. Before the match against Twente, Ajax will also play at FC Den Bosch in the cup tournament.

Sjoerd Mossou, journalist of the AD, also expects Schreuder to fight a battle that cannot be won. “It gives me Danny Blind vibes. When he was national coach, he always faced some kind of impossible tribunal. I also have that a bit with Schreuder now. Whatever he says, whatever he decides and whatever he does: it can no longer be won. He himself chose to jump into the bee’s nest, of course. Arie van Eijden, former chairman of Ajax, once said that if the fans wave white handkerchiefs, he will do it twice can stop. By the third time, it really stops.”
