Arnold Bruggink would not be surprised if Jeremie Frimpong will be part of the the Dutch squad for the World Cup in Qatar in a year’s time. The twenty-year-old right back is undisputed basic player at Bayer Leverkusen this season. Bruggink mentions Frimpong in the program football talk by ESPN ‘a boy who fills it in like Denzel Dumfries does’.
“He is an undisputed starting player in the current number six of the Bundesliga. A boy who fills it in like Dumfries does. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s there in a year’s time,” Bruggink says about Frimpong. Bayer Leverkusen bought him from Celtic in January for €11 million. This season, Frimpong – currently international for the Dutch Juniors – has played seventeen games for the time being, in which he was good for a goal and five assists.
Mitchel Bakker can also count on a base place at Bayer Leverkusen this season, although he is currently out of circulation due to a torn ankle ligament. “I like the way he plays at Jong Oranje… I don’t know, I always have a bit of trouble with his way of playing. If you can be a basic player at Bayer Leverkusen, you are a serious candidate to be looked at,” Bruggink said. The guests in football talk is asked about a player who is not yet in the picture at the the Dutch squad, but who may have a serious chance of a place in the World Cup selection next year.
Sjoerd Mossou, journalist for the General Newspaper, Tyrell calls Malacia. “He has already been there, but it is not the case that he has a permanent place in the Dutch national team. Louis van Gaal will soon be playing 5-3-2 and has a problem on the left side,” said Mossou. Presenter Vincent Schildkamp drops the name of Quinten Timber, while Kees Kwakman surprises by mentioning Brian Brobbey. The nineteen-year-old striker has hardly played at RB Leipzig this season.
“We are looking for a coat rack striker, aren’t we? Brian Brobbey. He must be rented out next summer”, Kwakman explains his choice. “This is a surprise, isn’t it? Luuk de Jong is starting to get a bit problematic. That might get worse. You have some problems up front. Brobbey may be madness, though.”
