Mats Wieffer does not expect to be injured in his debut international match against Gibraltar (3-0 win). Shortly after the break, the midfielder of the Dutch received a death kick from Liam Walker, who immediately received a red card. Wieffer’s ankle doubled, but the Feyenoord player does not expect any damage.

Walker stood on Wieffer’s ankle in a duel for the ball. “That was quite a kick,” says the inspector at the NOS. “At first I thought I broke my leg, because it hurt quite a lot. But after that it went just fine.” A few minutes later, Wieffer was substituted. “It was not the reason that I dropped out, because we had already agreed in advance that I would play around sixty minutes. I felt it a bit, but it’s just going well.”

Wieffer had to miss Friday’s European Championship qualifier against France (4-0 loss) due to minor complaints and made his first appearance for the the Dutch squad on Monday. “For me personally it was of course very nice today. I enjoyed it, that’s for sure. For me it was a very nice week to play with all these guys. It’s a very good group. I was received very well, that’s nice for myself.” Against Gibraltar it didn’t work out for the the Dutch. “You get all the time and space. I sometimes find that even more difficult than when you get a little busy.”

Gibraltar came out very defensive. “I have not often had that the opponent is so low (on the field, ed.), “says Wieffer. “We should have scored more goals, but it was not really easy to finish. It all could have been better, but in the end we won 3-0. What could have been better? Change sides faster to destroy them. They We were of course very low, which made it quite difficult. In the end, we just struggled to play through it.”
