Brian Brobbey has the ambition to one day return to Ajax. The striker left for RB Leipzig this summer, but agrees in conversation with the NOS that Ajax remains ‘his club’. In an interview with Ajax TV said director of football affairs Marc Overmars this week that Brobbey is ‘always welcome’ at Ajax and the nineteen-year-old youth exponent of the Amsterdam team has also received those statements.

“I’ve read it… Nice of Marc, isn’t it?” responds Brobbey, who played with the Dutch Juniors against Moldova’s peers (3-0) on Tuesday evening and scored once. “He is a very sweet man. I think he loves me and I love him too. I like that Marc talks about me, that gives me a good feeling. One day I will play for Ajax again, will be fine.” He does not mind that Brobbey is often asked about his old club, even after an international match with the Dutch Juniors. “No, that’s allowed. Ajax is and will remain my club, but I am now focusing on Leipzig.”

Brobbey was allowed to fill in two league matches and one match in the DFB-Pokal so far. Added up, he only came into action for 37 minutes. André Silva is for the time being the first striker of Leipzig. “We have to wait for minutes,” said Brobbey, who has discussed his situation with trainer Jesse Marsch. “If I get it from the trainer, I’m ready. He tells me that I have to trust him that it will be okay. I trust him in that.”

Overmars referred in the interview with Ajax TV according to Brobbey’s competitors in Germany. “We have one striker, in Leipzig there are five or six…”, he said. “It was his choice. Yet you still have a bit in the back of your mind: it will come back one day.” Overmars hoped that Brobbey, together with talents such as Ryan Gravenberch, Jurriën Timber and Devyne Rensch, could play a role in the future of Ajax. “It’s unfortunate that that didn’t happen with Brian. But I’d love to see him again in the future. Is he always welcome? Yes, but he knows that.”
