L’Equipe published a major interview with Kylian Mbappé on Tuesday. The attacker of Paris Saint-Germain and the national team of France talks extensively in the newspaper about his wish to leave in the summer months. Mbappe admits he wanted to go to Real Madrid. However, the Spanish top club did not manage to release the attacker in the Parc des Princes. According to Mbappe, it is not a foregone conclusion that he will now renew with the Ligue 1 club, partly because there have been no talks with PSG.

“I am affiliated with PSG. If I had left last summer, it would have only been Real Madrid,” emphasizes Mbappe, who now has an expiring contract. “When I say I want to leave, I want to say I want to go to Real Madrid. Real Madrid made an offer. I thought my time at PSG was over. A transfer was the logical next step. Another club? New. I am attached to Paris. I would have gone to Real Madrid alone.”

“Before the European Championship I told PSG that I did not want to renew my contract and after the European Championship I said I wanted to leave. It was absolutely my ambition that we part in good harmony: the buying club, the selling club and myself.” The later arrival of Lionel Messi had no positive or negative effect on his earlier stance. “I’m not going to change my mind because of Messi… It’s a privilege, he’s great, but I don’t make impulsive decisions.”

“I had made my decision and I had thought long and hard about it.” Mbappe doesn’t know if this will be his last season in Paris service. “I’ve stayed with PSG and I’m really happy (…) But we’re a long way from a new contract since I said I wanted to leave. We haven’t talked about a new contract at all since then, for the past two months.”

“What could make me stay at PSG? We are a long way from that… since I wanted to leave PSG in the summer. I’m not going to be the hypocrite. My intentions and ambitions were clear. We will see what will happen. My future is not my priority right now.” Mbappe admits he thought his adventure with PSG was over. “I wanted to discover something new. I’ve played in the French league for six or seven years now. I gave my all at PSG and I think I did a good job.”
