Kjell Scherpen is still positive about his move to Brighton & Hove Albion. The 21-year-old goalkeeper made the switch from Ajax for five million euros last summer, but did not play for a minute in the first team of Ajax. the Seagulls. Scherpen says in an interview with The Telegraph agreed an adjustment year with the club, which would be part of a bigger plan.

“I would have the first year to adjust to the club, the level and the Premier League. And to play as much as possible where possible,” Scherpen quotes the agreements made between him and the club. However, the closing post, who is currently preparing with the Dutch Juniors for the European Championship qualifying match with Gibraltar on Monday, was injured in his very first practice match. “As I was about to kick a back pass, a player came from the other side and tapped my shoe, kicking me into the ground. My anklets couldn’t handle that very well.”

It took Scherpen six weeks to recover and he is now making his minutes with the Under-23 of Brighton. At the end of September, he made his comeback against Leicester City’s reserves; in total, the counter so far stands at three official duels. Despite the fact that Scherpen has not yet made minutes in the ‘adult’ Premier League, he does not think he should complain. “No, I’m just taking steps. The training sessions at the first are of a high level. I train everything, I also feel myself getting stronger. That is positive.”

Brighton & Hove Albion are currently in a creditable seventh place in the Premier League and have an undisputed first goalkeeper in Robert Sanchez. Unofficially, Scherpen is the third man behind reserve goalkeeper Jason Steele, but the former FC Emmen keeper is patiently waiting for his chance. “I don’t necessarily worry that it has to happen now, even if I want nothing more than to break through. Brighton has a plan for me. I have plenty of time and I know what I chose.”
