Ajax went down against FC Groningen in the last match before the interland break and the team from Amsterdam thus camped in fifth place with nine points. SC Heerenveen is one of the teams that is currently in the lead in the Eredivisie, together with Feyenoord and PSV, and the Frisians will be Ajax’s next opponent next Sunday. André Onana assumes that his team will come out better then.

“We need to be more focused in the back and put more intensity into the game. Then I know for sure that things will go better ”, Onana says through the official channels of his employer. The goalkeeper and his teammates are aware that they have to show more against Heerenveen than against Groningen.

Ten Hag: ‘We know what we need to work on’

“You don’t have to explain that to this group. I take them on the training field every day. The will is enormous ”, he continues. “I think we have shown this season that we are still a strong team, although of course the game with Groningen did not go as we hoped. I think we got off to a pretty good start against Groningen, but we also had bad luck when we hit the bar twice, for example. ”

Due to Heerenveen’s status as a co-leader, the encounter in the Johan Cruijff ArenA is an instant hit. Next week, however, there is an even more appealing match on the program, when Liverpool visits Amsterdam as part of the Champions League: “I’m looking forward to the duel with Heerenveen, but certainly also to Ajax – Liverpool. Those are the races for which we train so hard. Wonderful challenges. I want to show these types of teams and the rest of the world what good players we have again ”, Onana concludes.
