Zlatan Ibrahimovic became the oldest goalscorer ever in the history of Serie A on Saturday evening. The 41-year-old striker of AC Milan was accurate from the penalty spot in the lost match with Udinese (3-1). Ibrahimovic took the record from Alessandro Costacurta, but appears not to be happy with it. “He can keep the record. I don’t want this record at all!”

Ibrahimovic was exactly 41 years and 166 days old on Saturday when he used the penalty. The record of Costacurta, who also played for Milan at the time, had been in the books since 2007. Because his goal did not result in a win, Ibrahimovic can’t do anything with the record. “He can keep the record. I don’t want this record at all! My goal did not yield any points and of course I would have preferred that.”

Moments later, Ibrahimovic qualifies his statement. “I am proud to be in the history books at this club, because Milan is a great club with a great history. There have been a lot of big players here and having my name on it means a lot to me.” Milan is currently fourth in Italy, 20 points behind Napoli. Number two Internazionale and number three Lazio are still in sight.

Although Ibrahimovic’s contract expires in Milan, he does not seem to be thinking about stopping yet. “If I keep feeling good, I want to keep going. Those who were still fit and still retired have regretted it. I suffered for fourteen months, now I have the chance to show myself again. I am happy at Milan and of course it also depends on what the club wants, but I feel good here.” Ibrahimovic has been active as a professional football player since 1999.
