Nico-Jan Hoogma is absolutely not pleased with statements that Peter Bosz recently made in an interview with Football International. The current trainer of Olympique Lyon said that before Frank de Boer was appointed, the KNVB only asked if he was available. Hoogma thinks it is absolutely unacceptable that Bosz has quoted from a longer confidential conversation.

“The first time I was polled, I was just at Dortmund. The second time was for the appointment of Frank de Boer. Then I sat with Leverkusen and was only asked if I was available. They should have asked: ‘Do you want to be a national coach?’ Then I could have asked them to contact Leverkusen and maybe they would have worked it out,” Bosz said about the times he was asked to become national coach. He now said ‘not to be busy’ with an employment contract with the KNVB.

“Bosz quoted from a longer confidential conversation, which I think is absolutely impossible. And if you do, you have to tell the whole story,” Hoogma responds in an interview with Football International to those statements by Bosz. He will leave the KNVB as director of top football in six months. “I’m not going to be on that same level. If Peter knows better, he should come and sit in my chair. He will be released next year.”

Hoogma is also disturbed by the tenor surrounding the appointment of Louis van Gaal, who replaced De Boer after the disappointing European Championship. “Some comments gave the impression that Eric Gudde and I went to Portugal on our knees. What nonsense. When I called Louis, we were immediately welcomed. Louis agreed with the plans and after about ten days he gave his word,” emphasizes Hoogma.

In his words ‘nonsense’ it is already clear that Henk Fraser will be Van Gaal’s successor after the 2022 World Cup. The current Sparta Rotterdam trainer currently works as an assistant to Van Gaal, as does Danny Blind. “As if you can already say what the Dutch will need in a year’s time. It has been agreed with Henk that we will evaluate him and Sparta this month. We would like to continue with him, but Sparta has to agree to that.”
