Ronald Koeman surprised Barcelona president Joan Laporta with the statement he made on Wednesday during the press conference in the run-up to the away game against Cádiz. Laporta tells Spanish media that the Barcelona board was only informed of Koeman’s plan at the last minute. The Barcelona president says Koeman’s action was ‘maybe not necessary’.

“We found out at the last minute that he wanted to make a statement. He has the obligation to attend the press conference and is free to express himself in it as he wishes. We respect the coach’s decision,” Laporta said. “We are in a difficult situation and we could use a little more rest. We can overcome the difficult situation with results, so I hope we will get a good result against Cádiz.”

Laporta – who had already traveled to Andalusia for a meeting of various Barcelona fan clubs – spoke out louder a few hours later against Koeman’s statement. “I don’t think it was necessary. When you answer questions, you can always express yourself better,” said Laporta. “The trainer is always dependent on the results and the game. He’s not just about the results here, he’s also about the game. Ronald knows that and will act like a professional.”

Koeman read a statement during the press conference on Wednesday and then left without answering questions from the journalists present. “The club’s financial situation is linked to its sporting achievements, so we have to rebuild the squad without being able to make major investments,” Koeman said. in their time, but patience is important. A high final finish in LaLiga would be a success.”

“We can’t expect miracles in the Champions League,” the coach continued. “The defeat to Bayern must be viewed from that perspective. The team must be supported in word and gesture in this situation. The press also understand that this process is taking place. This is not the first time that the club has found itself in this situation. We count on your support in these difficult times and as a team we are happy with the support we received against Granada. Visca el Barca!.”
