Ajax is still busy with the search for a new technical director. Danny Blind decided not to return to the Supervisory Board after the World Cup in Qatar. A successor has yet to be found for him. Blind calls finding new people technically opposite Fidelity ‘no easy task’.
“As a supervisory director, I have always said to Overmars: ‘Marc, one thing: you and the trainer can never leave at the same time, get that in your ears,'” says Blind. “Then you could end up in a vacuum. But that did happen, due to circumstances.” Overmars unexpectedly left Ajax in February 2022 after cross-border messages to female colleagues, after which Erik ten Hag opted for employment with Manchester United last summer.
Ajax has been looking for a new director of football affairs for some time now. The club appointed Gerry Hamstra and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as technical heart after the departure of Overmars. “They are now working on a new technical director and someone with technical background needs to join the Supervisory Board. That is not so easy”, says Blind. Pier Eringa, the new chairman of the Supervisory Board of Ajax, recently announced that the club must hurry with the appointment of a new technical director.
Daley Blind left Ajax through the back door last winter. Father Danny Blind nevertheless still feels like an Ajax player. “It does not detract from the club love. Not when it comes to the club itself. At Ajax I also met very nice people. But there are also people who make decisions that make you look at them differently.”
