Brian Brobbey predicts a great future for his teammate Jurriën Timber. The nineteen-year-old striker has been playing at Ajax together with Timber since the smallest youth and thinks that the defender will end up at the absolute top.

“I always tell him he’s going to Barcelona,” Brobbey said in an interview with Ajax TV that he gives with his teammates Timber and Devyne Rensch. “He’s such a good defender, you really don’t want to stand on him.” Rensch agrees. “If you also look at his statistics … Not normal. In the beginning he was of course on the bench, but when he got a chance he never let go.”

Timber, Brobbey and Rensch experienced their big breakthrough in Ajax’s first this season. The former appreciates the bond they have among themselves. “We do a lot together in, for example, recovery after competitions,” says Timber. “It’s about things like strength training, walking out and it helps.” The three players also understand each other well on the field. “You know each other as a player, so you already know what the other is going to do. The opponent does not yet know what Devyne is going to do, but I do know. That is nice to see.”

Brobbey leaves transfer-free to RB Leipzig, but Timber absolutely wants to stay with Ajax. “I want the same as this season: take prizes again,” said the nineteen-year-old defender. “I also want to do better at the European level, although we have done quite well this season. I just want to last longer in the Champions League. And I just want to keep developing myself.” Timber is also in the preliminary European Championship selection of the the Dutch, it was announced on Friday.
