In 2022, football players and clubs are more active than ever on social media. Top players such as Lionel Messi, Memphis Depay, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as well as national and international clubs, provide an insight into the ins and outs (almost) daily via Instagram, Twitter or other internet channels. Football zone put the craziest, most beautiful and most striking posts on social media in the VZ Social section.

Patrice Evra has ridiculed Manchester City on Twitter. The Frenchman posted an edited photo of himself with English legend Sir Bobby Charlton, of them looking at the Champions League trophy. In the photo, Evra asks Sir Bobby Charlton to double-check that City’s name is not on the trophy, after which Charlton says the name is still not on it. “How many more years do I and Sir Bobby have to check? One, five, ninety years,” the former United player wrote with a wink.

With the tweet, Evra refers to the elimination of Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. City seemed to be on roses in Santiago Bernabeu due to a goal from Riyad Mahrez, but were eliminated by Real Madrid by goals from Rodrygo (twice) and Benzema. Despite expressing their desire to win the Champions League, City have never succeeded. Last year, Pep Guardiola’s team lost in the final battle against Chelsea (1-0).
