Ajax keeps an eye on the performance of twenty-year-old Vitinho. The young attacker from São Paulo has a contract until mid-2022, but according to sports director Carlos Belmonte may soon sign a new agreement. A transfer to Ajax therefore seems far away. According to Belmonte, however, director of player affairs Marc Overmars has had Vitinho in his sights for some time.

“Vitinho is close to a new contract. It depends on the situation of Joao Rojas. Hernán Crespo (coach of São Paulo, ed.) Sees it in Vitinho. Ajax has also scouted him,” Belmonte said in an interview. with Sombra Tricolor. With ‘Joao Rojas’ situation’, the director refers to the expiring contract of 31-year-old Rojas. After a long period of injuries, the attacker has been given opportunities from trainer Crespo in recent weeks. The club would like to extend its contract; Rojas has not yet made a decision and is aiming for a salary increase. Belmonte does not explain exactly how the situations of Vitinho and Rojas are linked.

Rojas is a left winger, right winger and attacking midfielder. Now that he is fit for the match again, he is seen by his club as the permanent successor of the right winger Antony who has left for Ajax. Vitinho is notably known as a right winger and would therefore have less prospect of playing time if Rojas stays with the club. He has only two raidings in São Paulo’s first team so far. The youngster participated for twelve minutes in the won away match against Ituano (0-3) on April 26 and came in a minute before time to visit Mirassol (1-1). In addition to Antony, Ajax also took David Neres away from São Paulo in the recent past.
